Classification of safety shoes according to protection classes and standards

Safety shoes are differentiated according to European guidelines.
The details of the shoe equipment result from the requirements in the respective working area.


Which protection class is the right one?
Categories of the EN ISO 20345:

The basic requirement for footwear complying with the EN ISO 20345 standard is an anti-slip sole complying with SRA, SRB or SRC and a protective toecap. It can be either steel, aluminium or plastic.


S1:

Safety shoes of protection class S1 are mostly used in dry environments. The main areas of application are, e.g: industry, trade and logistics.

  • toe protection cap for high loads, the protective effect of which is tested against impact with a test energy of at least 200 joules and against
  • pressure at a compressive load of at least 1,500 Newton.
  • closed heel area
  • antistatic
  • energy absorption capacity in the heel area
  • oil and petrol resistant sole

We have these safety shoes as safety low shoes or safety sandals.


S1P:

These shoes have a puncture-resistant sole in addition to S1. They are suitable for areas where the effects of moisture
is not to be expected and where pointed objects can be expected.

  • pressure at a compressive load of at least 1,500 Newton.

S2:

They are well suited for working outdoors or indoors where exposure to moisture is expected. They also have water-repellent properties. The main areas of application are e.g: Industry, trade, logistics or workshops.

  • pressure at a compressive load of at least 1,500 Newton.

S3:

They are well suited for working outdoors or indoors where exposure to moisture is expected. They also have a puncture-proof profile sole and heat-resistant properties. The main areas of application are e.g: Heavy work indoors and outdoors or on construction sites.
